Observations and thoughts:
The last year for the Bar & Restaurant Show in NYC, the industry show for Bar & Restaurant Professionals, was 2014. A lot has gone down in the last few years that impacted the restuarant / bar industry, namely the Covid pandemic from which the industry is just now emerging from. I am planning on attending the Bar & Restaurant Expo MARCH 27-29, 2023 in LAS VEGAS Convention Center. The keynote speakers look great: Jet Tila, Celebrity Chef and Restaurateur / Jackie Summers, Creator and Founder, Sorel Liqueur / Susan Fedroff Owner/Operator of Clover Club. There are 12 other speakers, work shops, master classes, conference sessions and parties. Plus it all takes place in Las Vegas. This will be the first expo I have attended in the last year and I will be attending it as a different person thanks to the great program I am enrolled in that has helped me change my relationship with alcohol. For awhile I was in a downward spiral heading to AUD, but with the support of a support guide and their anti craving drug Baclofen, plus unlimited access to it's vast array of tools and even an online support group, I have reached my goal to be able to drink moderately. After all my profession as a food critic requires drinking as well as eating! Interested? This is NOT your AA or rehab treatment that requires a demanding, abstinence only routine. The program allows participants to cut back and even stop drinking if that's your goal. I can't say that initially it was easy. I had to acclimate to the medication as it was slowly increased until I now longer craved to drink more and more. I was stunned to learn that I could drink normally while taking baclofen. I was surprised at my follow-ups to check for reductions in alcohol cravings and drinking, that I actually was drinking less and eventually had no craving for alcohol. I was relieved to learn that Baclofen is the go-to treatment for AUD in France and Australia, although, at the moment, even though it is FDA-approved medication traditionally used to treat muscle spasms, it is prescribed off label here in the US for AUD.

I do miss the Bar & Restaurant Show in NYC, but the Las Vegas Expo looks great.
